La Golondrina ('The Swallow')

Written in 1862 by Narciso Serradell Sevilla, this is a popular waltz melody that has crossed over from Mexican to Mid-western polka bands and beyond. Youtube has versions by Nat King Cole, Placido Domingo, and Chet Atkins. Elvis did a version with new lyrics in English, 'She Wears my Ring'.

La Golondrina is featured in The Wild Bunch:

Here's a version where they're playing a spanish double-reed horn called a Dulzaina  --

Finally, one by concertina great, Syl Liebl:

  1. I thank you so much for remembering here this beautiful evergreen song "La Golondrina" and Narciso Serradell Sevilla. This song is more known in Mexico under the title "Las Golondrinas", but also there are beautiful different versions titled "Adios Amor".
What a mess, because there are more other songs titled as "Las Golondrinas" and also "La Golondrina" -but they are NOT of N.S.Sevilla!
In English -"She Wears My Ring" but also "The Swallow", "I Wear His Ring", etc... There are more different-titled versions in German and especially Dutch languages. Today is still popular in Korea ("제비") and Japan ("ラ・ゴロンドリーナ” ) > translated both as "The Swallow". In Portuguese titled as "A Andorinha", but also "Se Ela Voltar", etc... Nana Mouskouri from Greece has 3 versions in different languages but NOT ANY in her Greek language! So sad! I am collecting all available audio versions of "La Golondrina" and have now more than 1.200 audio recordings -songs and instrumentals -in different languages! Sure, I am searching for other versions... Not any song from Russia, Italy... Regards!
